It's more or less due to Activision not making enough money. Notice how Bungie gets to hold onto the IP?. Sony wanted to hold onto Sunset OD, yet they went with MS, who allowed them to hold it. When a publisher gives away the brand, after it has clearly been sullied, you know that publisher doesn't think it's worth keeping.

I too hope Blizz splits from Activision, but most of the founding fathers and good staff are jumping ship. Blizz is hardly the same old Blizz from the old days. They need to go back to what put them on the map, which they are already trying to do with WC III: Reforged, but they need to do more than just a small remaster.

Again, stop diverging from what I'd said before. You act like Bungie will never make anything for PC, let alone anything for PC and it selling rather well. Wtf are you on about with that logic though?.

2. Again, other publishers that aren't the big 3 readily exist, as well as other means of funding existing out there as well. You do know that the games industry runs and thrives on other publishers,. The entire gaming industry isn't just consoles you know?.

3. What Pemalite said, as he's put it into far better words.

I dont think anybody claimed that there arent other pubishers or other means of funding. Just that other publishers or other ways of funding have a direct i give you money you gime more back. So they are more likely to enforce monetazation options if they  dnt believe they willmake a return. But for consoles is a bit diferent, while yes, they want money, their main concern is to build a brand so pushing consoles. They will be happier with a great review game than actual profit. As a great game pushes consoles then they buy other games and profit of thouse. Basicly saying they would be more hands off so the studio can be as creative as they want. I think MS only wants it to be an online multiplayer, but I think bungie wants the same.

The situation with Sunset overdrive is different,Twintail in his reply to me  showed that Bungie owned the Destiny IP from day one and the ten year contract was just about publishing rights, so Activision never gave away the brand.  This seems to stem from the Chinese Publisher of Destiny taking a minor stake in Bungie and a seat on the board for $100 million. this timing would point towards them most likely being the instigator or at least co conspirator in this buyout. This backing is probably why bungie feel confident about owning the publishing rights going forward and without it bungie even if they had the financial resources to do it most likely wouldn't have made the buyout .
