The unknown always has greater potential and garners greater excitement than the present. Games are much more heavily wanted and anticipated by core gamers before they're released. Once a game comes out, people see the short comings but before the game is released it is potentially the best in whatever set of ways and potentially unlimited.
Dreaming for the future is a mistake. Play for the present, and when games come out, get excited about them then.
