Wednesday news, part two:
Paradox acquires Prison Architect and is exploring new 'Architect' games
https://www.pcgamer.com/paradox-acquires-prison-architect-and-is-exploring-new-architect-games/
Prolific strategy publisher Paradox Interactive has purchased all the rights and assets for the Prison Architect IP from Introversion Software. Beyond giving Paradox ownership over a three-year-old game—which it also already publishes on iOS and Android—it lets the publisher turn it into a series under the 'Architect' umbrella.
>> Let's see how long it takes them to launch DLCs for the game...
Dirty Bomb is going completely free in its last update
https://www.pcgamer.com/dirty-bomb-is-going-completely-free-in-its-last-update/
Dirty Bomb’s final update will make the team-based shooter entirely free. Splash Damage announced the end of active development last year after it failed to attract a large enough audience, though it said servers would keep running for as long as the player count supported them.
Co-op dungeon crawler Breach arrives on Steam Early Access next week
https://www.pcgamer.com/co-op-dungeon-crawler-breach-arrives-on-steam-early-access-next-week/
We took the asymmetrical co-op dungeon crawler Breach for a spin last summer and it seemed quite good: "Impressively complete and refined," despite being in an alpha state, with an "audacious" diversity of mechanics and roles available to players. Developer QC Games said in November that Breach would debut on Steam Early Access sometime this month, and today it nailed that down to January 17.
Play a traveling painter in the beautiful open world of Eastshade, coming in February
https://www.pcgamer.com/play-a-traveling-painter-in-the-beautiful-open-world-of-eastshade-coming-in-february/
I first heard about Eastshade back in 2016, and the idea sounded immediately appealing: wander a gorgeous open world as a traveling painter, completing landscape paintings at the behest of NPCs. Originally planned for a 2017 release, it's obviously been delayed a touch, but it'll finally grace our monitors on February 13. Check out the new trailer above.
Earn Ana's Bastet skin in the Overwatch Bastet Challenge
https://www.pcgamer.com/earn-anas-bastet-skin-in-the-overwatch-bastet-challenge/
Blizzard released a new Overwatch short story yesterday that, among other things, showcases Ana's turn as Bastet, the protector of Cairo. Today it incorporated some of that history into Ana's Bastet Challenge, a new set of Overwatch in-game challenges that give players the opportunity to unlock rewards ranging from sprays to a new Bastet Ana skin.
2D action game Dark Devotion is coming soon, so let's watch some fights
https://www.pcgamer.com/2d-action-game-dark-devotion-is-coming-soon-so-lets-watch-some-fights/
Jody told us about Dark Devotion back in 2017, saying that it was kind of like Castlevania but without the ability to revisit explored areas, and with a dash of Prince of Persia thrown in to keep players on their toes. Developer Hibernian Workshop was in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign that was ultimately successful, and not too long ago it made an appearance on our list of games coming in 2019. Today the studio delivered a new gameplay trailer and reaffirmed that the game will be out early this year.
My Time At Portia, the Harvest Moon-inspired farm RPG, leaves Early Access next week
https://www.pcgamer.com/my-time-at-portia-the-harvest-moon-inspired-farm-rpg-leaves-early-access-next-week/
My Time At Portia is a Harvest Moon-inspired farm life sim RPG that hit Steam Early Access in January 2018. One year later, almost to the day, it will leave Early Access and go into full release, and that means we've got a new trailer to watch.
The Textorcist is a bullet hell where typing is your only weapon
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-textorcist-is-a-bullet-hell-where-typing-is-your-only-weapon/
If there’s one thing the legions of Hell fear, it’s a priest with solid typing skills, at least in The Textorcist, a bullet hell game where reciting scripture is the only way to defeat projectile-spewing demons. It’s due out on February 14 because what says ‘love’ better than exorcising Satanic hordes? Take a gander at the trailer above.
Stab people righteously with Imperius, Heroes of the Storm's new hero
https://www.pcgamer.com/stab-people-righteously-with-imperius-heroes-of-the-storms-new-hero/
Blizzard’s games have no dearth of memorable characters, but I had completely forgotten who the next Heroes of the Storm brawler was until I hunted down his background. It’s Imperius! You know, that archangel that crops up a couple of times in Diablo 3. He’s more important than I’m giving him credit for, but angels don’t need bigger heads. He’s live now, and you can watch his spotlight above.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is getting level scaling options, quests, and monsters soon
https://www.pcgamer.com/assassins-creed-odyssey-is-getting-level-scaling-options-quests-and-monsters-soon/
Ubisoft’s already freakishly huge Greek epic is expanding again this month. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is charging into 2019 with a new DLC episode, along with more free quests, mercenaries and, at long last, some level scaling options. Every time I think I’m close to done, all this new stuff pops up and I find myself dragged back to antiquity.
Final Fantasy Digital Card Game announced for PC, but so far only in Japan
https://www.pcgamer.com/final-fantasy-digital-card-game-announced-for-pc-but-so-far-only-in-japan/
Final Fantasy Digital Card Game is, you will be shocked to discover, a digital CCG inspired by the JRPG romps. It is not, lamentably, Triple Triad, otherwise known as Final Fantasy’s most important contribution to the realm of minigames. It’s due out in Japan in 2019, starting with a beta test this month, but Square Enix is yet to announce versions for other regions.
Streamers have been trying to solve Destiny 2's new puzzle for 20 hours straight
https://www.pcgamer.com/streamers-have-been-trying-to-solve-destiny-2s-new-puzzle-for-20-hours-straight/
If your idea of high quality ASMR content is listening to young men who haven't slept in more than a day slowly lose their minds while muttering "lotus, missive, butterfly" as they shoot strange symbols, you should head for the Destiny 2 Twitch directory right now. There you'll find a dwindling band of heroic/deranged streamers who've been trying to beat the game's new Niobe Labs activity.
