The best year for gaming was 1987. That was the year the NES actually went nationwide in the US. If you were in the US and not in a huge city (like me), then that was the year that they released Super Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Punch Out, etc....
Anywho, the past 10 years haven't been too great in the grand scheme, but I'd have to pick 2017 for the release of the Switch and Breath of the Wild. I can understand why people would pick 2017 or 2018 as the best year, because the PS4/XB1/WiiU/3DS/Vita generation was a really terrible generation for gaming and the poll shows it. Good riddance. I am ready for the Switch to bring us back into a golden era for gaming.
