I am a collector so I prefer Nintendo's model.
They maintain a high price. Less copies on the secondary market means games are worth more.
When you devalue your product quickly there is no more incentive to buy it new. The quicker the prices drop the less launch numbers will be in the long run. I used to buy PS3/4 games day 1, but now I wait a few months because its a waste of my money being an early adopter.
