A Collector's Piece that's not intended to actually be played? That's not what Sony said when they announced it...
Doesn't sound at all like they were positioning it as something that's just supposed to sit on your shelf and not be played. Sony was very clear about pushing "the PlayStation experience". That's not targeting a "collector" only. Also, the people commenting on the announcement were giving their dream list of games they wanted on it. If this was for "collector's only", and "not meant to actually be played", nobody would care about what games were on it.
Also, we can stop with the all the spin about, Sony never intended to sell to people who were looking to actually play the games. They very intentionally cast a wide net hoping to sucker in unsuspecting consumers at retail. They charged a premium price for an inferior product. I also love how people say, it's no big deal, because it can be modded to perform better. The modding community is a very small percentage of the consumer base who buys video game systems. Sony knows that. That's where their announcement PR was specifically targeted towards the average consumer. It's not the average consumer's responsibility to make a manufacturer's product function properly. Especially not after shelling out $100 for said product. People think the PlayStation Classic is unfairly compared to the NES & SNES Classics which is the biggest laugh of all. Sony invited comparisons against those far superiorly executed products when they decided to give it the exact same name. Sony wanted to do a fast and cheap holiday cash grab at the expense of the average consumer. End of story.

Continue the hate dude. Why I purchased has squat to do with whatever Sony's prerogative was and more so that I wanted it because Sony offered it. The modding community may be small, but modding is also the reason why I purchase such systems. Same as why I purchased a Wii, a 3ds, a PSP, etc. Nobody tells you how to spend your money.. why feel the need to find justification in yourself because you didn't purchase such system. Pat yourself on the back, you didn't purchase the system. Who cares. I've been gaming since the mid 80's.. I know what I'm buying and what I'm not. I don't need another's opinion or a public review to feel like I got my money's worth. Not sure why it should matter to you also. I feel I got my money's worth.. you feel it wasn't.. cool. As for product functioning properly.. it does. Modding has squat to do with functioning.. only addition to what's currently offered. Same as with the NES and SNES classic. No emulation is ever going match original hardware. The flaws of the psx mini is minor but the potential supercedes it. it's not going ttbe everyone's cup of tea.
