The PS3 launch was a failure. The system took Sony four years before it turned a profit. The only reason it sold so many units was because Xbox360 and PS3 was the longest generation cycle. The PS3 turned the ship around and was successful in the later year of it's cycle but overall it was dark time in Sony Playstation history. |
! would go on to say that both consoles not only benefited from that extra long gen but needed it , with the PS3 and 360 it wasn't just about the extra time to sell more consoles and games the longer the gen the longer time you have where mature hardware with its decreasing costs is giving you the most money back , this extra time helped lessen Sony's PS3 launch and 360's RROD outcome ,the other benefit in Sony's case was it also meant when the end of the gen finally came about , the network breach and subsequent outage had been put to bed with PS4 arriving at a time when PSN was no longer seen as second rate.
