Even then it's not as black and white.
The Genesis had a CPU that was ahead of the SNES and typically had the advantage in memory transfers.
The Graphics and Audio side of the equation definitely fell in favour towards the Super Nintendo, games link Donkey Kong Country 2 was evidence of that... Nintendo's choice of hardware just had a better bang-for-buck than Sega's attempts.
