And those few heavy hitters I mentioned above that got great critical praise were, again, made by developers Sony bought. Nothing wrong with buying more. There are plenty of genres Sony doesn’t cover.

Out of the 15+ titles I listed (MLB is a yearly game consistently scoring 80+) 13 of them have meta scores of 80+, with 3 of them having meta scores of 90+. The majority of remaining PS4 games they have in the pipeline will only increase these numbers. Critically, your comment doesn't stand true. Sales reflect Sony first party is in great shape. 

Sony Japan co - developed BloodBorne and Santa Monica co - developed The Order. This is more than a money deal. 

The studios Sony bought also improved under them. They have a lot of creative freedom. It has allowed studios like ND, SP, MM, GG to improve the depth and scope of their games. I wasn't against Sony buying more studios. Its the idea their first party is struggling that's ridiculous. It hasn't been better. 

Studios Sony built from the ground up have been successful critically + commercially years ago.

Critically, yes it does. The issue is you’re interpreting “not all that incredible” to mean, as you literally said, “struggling”. No one said or implied they are struggling. Just not as incredible as people make it out to be. Imho. 

Of course it looks a lot better if you include stuff made outside the company. But that’s not internally developed.
