My opinion on the all Disc Drive and full digital consoles is that MS/Sony will have to be willing to take an up front loss on the hardware to pursue the long game of more profits from digital sales, Subscription services and fewer used copies been resold, I don't think simply offering a console without a disc drive for $50 would be worth it or be very effective. They would have to do something along the lines of:
$499 - Console with Disc Drive
$349 - Disc-less full digital console
I think at the start of next gen if either or both MS and Sony go this route the disc drive will be the top Sku initially with the digital only console eventually becoming the lead Sku 3 years into the cycle as the digital trend speeds up.
