Lol, a lot of these games come out near the end of the year. How can anyone have played them all. I just started Spider-Man yesterday. Haven't even tried any of the other other GOTY contenders.

Critics make up most of the nomination panel and they get early access to games for review purposes, and they play them quickly in order to get reviews out before the review embargo drops.

Personally I have played 5 of the 6 GOTY nominees (AC Odyssey, Spider-man, God of War, and RDR2) and have finished 3 of them so far (AC Odyssey, God of War, and Spider-Man) .

Wow, you are on top of it.   I kind of expect the critics to have played all of these games, but the average gamer probably hasn't.

With the Oscars, the release a lot of the films right before nomination time.  But the thing with films is that they only take 2 hours to watch.  If I wanted to binge all of the Oscar nominees, then I could do that without too much trouble.  But with games, it takes a lot more time.  I've spent the last two months playing through Octopath Traveler, lol.  I would need a lot more free time to play through most of those games on the list before the show.
