| VAMatt said: Yeah, I turned it off. But, I spent money to get a TV with decent HDR capabilities last fall. A major AAA game (RDR may actually be more like a AAAA game, budget-wise) these days should be making good use of that tech, not requiring me to turn it off for the game to look good. I think it's a pretty major screw up by Rockstar. |
I hope they can improve it with a patch yet I fear that since the game was 5 years in development the engine runs in 8 bit color. It does have fake HDR when going inside outside so the lighting engine i capable of delivering a higher range. Yet I guess all the intermediate buffers before post process effects are clipped at 8 bit. It's a shame, RDR2's starry nights and bright skies would look phenomenal with proper HDR. As well as the light of an oncoming train through the fog at night. It could have been the poster child for HDR. Lightning would have a lot bigger impact in HDR. At least I can make timelapse videos without worrying about the conversion to SDR!
This game with proper controls and proper HDR would be too good! Got to leave something to improve upon :)
