Several Trump nominees have failed for various reasons well below the threshold of sexual assault allegations.  Again, your belief that his nomination was assured and everyone knew it is nonsense.  It wasn't even assured that he would get a positive report out of committee.

A supreme court pick is for life. And the midterms were near. That means all the republicans knew that if they don't do it now, they might never get a chance to. Remember how Obama had to pick a justice and he wasn't controversial but the republicans kept blocking it off. The Dems would've done the same if they won the senate and House and there was still that empty seat. Tell me in which world Brett wouldn't have been chosen?
