From Bush to Obama to Trump the cycle I have seen is that the Democrats increase taxes to offset entitlements, then the Republicans lower taxes but do nothing to entitlements exacerbating debt, then Democrats come in to undo it. Rinse wash repeat. Since Republicans wont touch entitlements, they need Democrats to try to balance it by increasing revenue. In all honesty, the problem with Republican strategy is that they can never balance the budget because they are anti tax. And they will never have the support to end entitlements. That how revolutions are created. There would have to be universal suffering. Not rich takes all and everyone suffers.
