Less is more in my opinion. The roads are far too busy and the random encounters are getting repetitive. There's the hunter stuck in the bear trap again, the escaped felon that needs his chains cut, the guy bitten by a snake, etc. And every time it plays out exactly the same. When npc's start bothering you every 30 seconds you simply tend to ignore them. Hence I went white water canoeing for a couple hours to get away from it all :)
