It won't be a "big 4" by this holiday, though.

As for BotW reaching 12m, wow. Never thought I'd see the day a Zelda game would make 10m, never mind this easily.

The dynamic of Zelda has changed some what with BOTW as the game is positioned in a way that's similar to games like GTA (ironic as GTA exists because of Zelda), we saw with OOT and TP that the series has the anticipation and selling power that can rival Mario along with the type of AAA appeal mainstream games have and BOTW is really the first game in the series to fully move on that aspect tbh.

I think we're seeing a future for this series where it goes down a similar path as Mario with its 2d and 3d games especially as the games are taking longer to develop, we'll likely get a 3d title that will play the GTA type role for its platform as the game that really pushes it and a possible top down Zelda game.

Personally, I feel like 3D Zelda (BOTW especially) makes 2D Zelda obsolete. It has the essential elements of exploration, sword fighting, character growth, and maybe puzzles. 3D Mario, on the other hand, cannot replicate the essential platforming feel of 2, which is why it cannot sell 20-30 million. But maybe that's just me, and maybe Odyssey willpass 20mln...

Also, a 2D multiplayer Zelda with more action and less puzzles than 4 swords could change my tune.
