SALES & "SALES"/DEALS
Alan Wake is back on Steam and GOG, and it's on sale too
https://www.pcgamer.com/alan-wake-is-back-on-steam-and-its-on-sale-too/
Remedy's spooky shooter Alan Wake, which was removed from Steam in May 2017 because of "expiring music licenses," is now back on the platform.
"Big thanks to our partner and Alan Wake’s publishers @Microsoft who were able to renegotiate the rights to the licensed music in Alan Wake, so that the game can be sold again," Remedy said in a followup tweet. And yes, all the music from the original release is still in place.
Appropriately for the return and the season, Alan Wake is also on sale for 80 percent off—that's $3/£2/€3, or $1 more for the collector's edition—until November 1.
(Update: It's also back, and on sale, on GOG.)
>>It's great to have it back. Btw, it's also back, and on sale, on the Humble Store and Fanatical.
On the Humble Store the weekend sale revolves around the Total War franchise, with up to 90% discounts: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/promo/total-war-franchise-weekend/
And at Fanatical, there's a new Omen Bundle, with 11 games 97% off for the next 14 days: https://www.fanatical.com/en/bundle/omen-bundle

Here is Quake 2 Path Tracing running on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080Ti at 1920×1080
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/here-is-quake-2-path-tracing-running-on-the-nvidia-geforce-rtx-2080ti-at-1920x1080/
YouTube’s ‘Thavex’ has shared a video, showing Quake 2 Path Tracing running on the latest high-end GPU, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080Ti. In case you weren’t aware of, this real-time path tracing is possible thanks to Amietia; a from-scratch GPU-based pathtracer created specifically for Quake 2.
Amietia – which you can download from here – has several optimisations which are only viable due to the typical characteristics of Quake 2 such as support for parallogram-shaped lightsources, BSP ray traversal, and special handling of sky ‘surfaces’ (portals).
Now us you will notice, there is a lot of noise (which is a side-effect to the low samples that are used for the real-time path tracing). From what I know its developer has not used any de-noiser which is a shame. Not only that, but this GPU-based pathtracer does not take advantage of the RTX2080Ti tensor cores.
Team Fortress 2008 throwback mod Steam page removed (Updated)
https://www.pcgamer.com/team-fortress-2-throwback-mod-reverts-game-back-to-2008-heading-to-steam/
Turn back time with XYK's Team Fortress 2008—a TF2 throwback mod that "reverts the game back to its 2008 version".
Due on Steam on January 11, 2019, its creator says the SourceMod is an alternative to Valve's esteemed Team Fortress 2 and is designed for "those who prefer the game before most of the later updates, and want the simpler old interface."
As reported by Eurogamer, Valve has given the TF-2008 team permission to list the mod on Steam—but did ask that the original idea be altered beforehand. It seems XYK et al happily complied.
Update: The Steam page for XYK's Team Fortress 2008 mod has been pulled. As reported by Eurogamer, a screenshot from the project's Discord (also now shuttered) suggests Valve could not be convinced at this stage that the TF-2008 team has created a mod for the original game, and is "not just repurposing leaked code".
As also reported by EG, it appears creator XYK left the project's Discord server with a distasteful parting comment.
