Final Fantasy 13. The first 20 hours of the game is basically garbage. After that it gets incredibly good. If they could fix the first 20 hours it would be one of the best games ever made.

This, but I would go much further.  Get better script and voice talent, bring out more interesting plot. Redo everything until the more open area. Fix battle System. Add cities... better music... etc. etc.

I mostly agree with this.  I think, somewhere in the beginning, they actually had a good story idea, but it was executed terribly.  The dialogue is bad and I feel kind of "meh" towards most of the characters.  On top of that they don't let you control which characters you use in the beginning.  In FF6 this was ok, because the story was really good, but in FF13 they take away control just so you play through a really bad story on top of that.  Also I agree there needs to be cities and stuff.

However, I find the music to be quite good.  I don't need that changed at all.  I also find the battle system to be extremely fun.  It really sucks at the beginning, but once they let you pick your party and how your characters grow and actually put some challenge in there, then the battle system really shines.

I know some people just hate the whole game.  That's not me.  I am in the camp that there is a really good game on a drawing board somewhere, but it was executed poorly.  That is why I want it to be remade.  There is so much wasted potential there.  I really, really loved the game a lot once I got to Gran Pulse, but it was just a hell of a slog to get there.  As much as I loved the last 80 hours of FF13, I don't know if I will ever play through it again, because I just don't want to endure the first 20 hours again.
