Unfortunately, the real problem is the false perception that we " focus on a person’s race or gender more than their policies." This view is perpetuated by those who are using such characteristics for political gain. And if your policy or political view point doesn't line up with those who are exploiting those characteristics, you're labeled as "hate" or "anti" of those people or groups of people with those characteristics.
