As long as the MT's are cosmetic and don't feel forced on you, I don't really mind them all that much.

They are not cosmetic in AC:O - they are there to give you XP needed to unlock levels in order to progress. Or you can grind instead. It's very core of most F2P games. There's really no place for such crap in non F2P games.

If the grind is preposterous then MTX for level are a problem, if it is just people wanting to quick level for bucks than that is those silly people choice.
