Rust gets a big boat filled with toys in the Cargo Ship update
https://www.pcgamer.com/rust-get-a-big-boat-filled-with-toys-in-the-cargo-ship-update/
The Cargo Ship Update has brought a big, noisy boat to the shores of Rust, and it's filled with useful loot and heavily-armed scientists who'd really rather you kept your hands off of it.
The ship, the CCSC Lazarus, will appear as a "periodic server event" that occurs every 2-to-4 in-game days. It will approach the island to a distance of about 200 meters, at which point you can ride out to it on a boat of your own and climb aboard via one of the ladders hanging down its side. At that point, you'll have to clear the defenders, hack two locked crates, and defend the ship while you're waiting for them to pop.

https://www.pcgamer.com/scammers-are-targeting-fortnite-players-with-data-stealing-malware/
Fortnite is an extraordinarily popular game, and because of that, scammers and con artists are (again, still) using it to distribute malware. A new report by Malwarebyte Labs says that the most recent round of scams goes beyond "typical low-level surveys and downloads that never actually materialize" by delivering software that can actually steal your data.

>>Meanwhile, Epic has launched a program to let users fund "content creators".

Space crash management sim RimWorld releases October 17th
https://www.pcgamer.com/space-crash-management-sim-rimworld-releases-october-17th/
After five and a half years, Ludeon Studios will finally release the 1.0 version of RimWorld on October 17th. Originally scheduled for much earlier this year, version 1.0 saw delays based on what the developer called “the 90/10 principle, where the first 90% of development takes 90% of the time, and the final 10% takes another 90% of the time.” The developer has not committed to further updates for the game other than supporting fan translations and a bug-fixing patch. However, the announcement post does say that they can think of “a variety of interesting directions to go with the game.”

Warcraft 3’s Mal’Ganis the dreadlord could be Heroes of the Storm’s next character
https://www.pcgamer.com/warcraft-3s-malganis-the-dreadlord-could-be-heroes-of-the-storms-next-character/
After a few days of tweeting cryptic gifs, the Heroes of the Storm Twitter account has put out an image of a full-on Warcraft Nathrezim Dreadlord. Yesterday, it tweeted a gif a lot like some people getting destroyed by the dreadlord ability Carrion Swarm, and today, voila: a full body shot of a bat-winged corruption demon. It’s about time for the game to get a new character, so we’re expecting that this big demon is it, and it seems like the demon may well be Mal’Ganis. An exciting prospect if you’ve played Warcraft 3, since Mal’Ganis is so pivotal to that game’s plot.

Arena RTS The Maestros is all about mutating your troops to victory
https://www.pcgamer.com/arena-rts-the-maestros-is-all-about-mutating-your-troops-to-victory/
An interesting-looking new strategy game popped up on Steam in the last few days: The Maestros. It’s an RTS that focuses on using a single hero and a handful of troops to get victory in an arena map with other players and NPCs. It’s currently in a promising Early Access state, and feels like a match of Warcraft 3 where you didn’t have to build a base and you’re painfully limited on what troops you can get before the real fighting actually begins.

https://www.pcgamer.com/devil-may-cry-5-footage-shows-dante-using-his-hat-as-a-weapon/
Recorded at the weekend's New York Comic-Con (via Eurogamer), Dante is seen wearing the Faust Hat, which gives the star man a host of superhuman powers. The hat itself looks like a nod to Devil May Cry 4's hat-donning Faust—a lower-level demon who was considered a relative of the Mephisto.

Here's 30 minutes of Fallout 76 gameplay
https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-76-gameplay/
Two of us got to play Fallout 76 at an event held by Bethesda in West Virginia last week, and we've got the footage to prove it! Unfortunately it wasn't the PC version of the game, it was a build on Xbox One, but we still got a few hours of playtime with Bethesda's online Fallout game. It began with us creating a character, leaving Vault 76, and exploring The Forest, one of the six different regions of Fallout 76. You can see 30 minutes of captured footage from our session above.

Fallout 76 has Red Dead-style treasure maps
https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-76-has-red-dead-style-treasure-maps/
There are dozens of treasure maps hidden in Fallout 76 which bear an uncanny resemblance to the ones found in Red Dead Redemption. Each map depicts some crudely drawn scenery complete with an all-important X, and that's basically it. You have to rely on your eyes and memory to find the treasure, so spelunking in the Appalachian frontier is just as fun as it was in the Wild West.
