How is "housing, security and transportation" generic?  

Housing: apartments/hotel  -> someone who is receiving death threats can't stay in one place.
Security: guards -> someone who is receiving death threats needs protection.

Transportation: gas -> someone who is receiving death threats can't stay in one place.

I wouldn't say gofundme's are common in any way, but people have set up gofundme's for victims of shootings, rapes, etc.  

the gofundme was setup 17 days ago...
