Friday news, part two and last for the week:

EA is making changes to Battlefield 5's divisive Attrition System
https://www.pcgamer.com/ea-is-making-some-changes-to-battlefield-5s-divisive-attrition-system/
Electronic Arts has posted a pair of Battlefield 5 updates that dive into the game's weapons, vehicles, and gear, and the "Attrition System" showcased in the open beta, where players sometimes spawn without full ammo or health.
"After each encounter in previous Battlefield games, you were always quickly back at status quo with restored health and ammo. Now, situations will be special after each encounter," EA says in the Attrition System explainer. "You may not have full health or ammo, so you need to act accordingly. Simply rushing for the next flag may not be enough—you need to change your tactic. Say you’re down to your last mag, should you play it safe or engage those two enemies you have a clear shot on?"

Surviving Mars: Space Race adds a competitive twist to life on the red planet
https://www.pcgamer.com/surviving-mars-space-race-adds-a-competitive-twist-to-life-on-the-red-planet/
Surviving Mars, a colony-building and management game akin to Sim City except the entire planet is a disaster that never stops happening, will get its first expansion later this year. Called Space Race, it puts the greatest nations and most powerful corporations on Earth against one another in a competition to acquire and control the Red Planet's limited resources.

Descent: Underground beta begins in November
https://www.pcgamer.com/descent-underground-beta-begins-in-november/
Descent: Underground was successfully Kickstarted in April 2015, went to Early Access later that year, and then in September 2017 was taken down so the developers could "focus on implementing single-player, tech trees, and the other cool features we’ve talked about." That was the final update on Steam until yesterday, when publisher Little Orbit dropped a new trailer and said that a Descent beta will begin in November, followed by a release in early 2019.

More Telltale employees have reportedly been laid off
https://www.pcgamer.com/telltales-skeleton-crew-has-reportedly-been-laid-off/
Telltale Games underwent a "majority closure" in September that saw the elimination of all but a "skeleton crew" of 25 employees. CEO Pete Hawley insisted in the wake of the layoffs that Telltale wasn't actually closing, but would continue operating for the foreseeable future. Today, however, narrative designer Rachel Noel revealed on Twitter that the remaining employees have now been let go.
Update (6 pm Pacific): Noel clarified in a followup tweet that some people are still at Telltale, although she wasn't sure about the numbers, saying only that "not many" remain. We'll update again when more information becomes available.

Big Bash Boom is an arcade cricket game by the creators of Ashes Cricket
https://www.pcgamer.com/big-bash-boom-is-an-arcade-cricket-game-by-the-creators-of-ashes-cricket/
I don't know anything about cricket except for how to spell 'cricket'. But I'm pretty familiar with the Ashes Cricket video game series, and I've written about the Don Bradman Cricket games as well. Both of these games play it pretty straight, both feature simulation elements, but if you're after a lighthearted approach to cricket I don't think there's much out there. Until now.
Big Bash Boom is a forthcoming arcade cricket game by the Australian studio responsible for the two aforementioned games, Big Ant Studios. You can tell its an arcade game because the characters have funny oversized heads. The collaboration with Cricket Australia will feature all the teams and players featured in this year's Big Bash League and Women's Big Bash League, and mascots will feature as well (hopefully you can throw cricket balls at them or better still, beat them with a cricket bat. Stupid scary mascots).

The Architect: Paris asks you to redesign the City of Lights
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-architect-paris-asks-you-to-redesign-the-city-of-lights/
If you're bored of plonking down ready-made buildings in your favourite city-building sim then you might enjoy The Architect: Paris. In this game you design and manage individual buildings and seed them into custom districts in an effort to create the perfect Paris.

Space Hulk: Tactics trailer kills a planet
https://www.pcgamer.com/space-hulk-tactics-trailer-kills-a-planet/
I tend to enjoy Warhammer 40,000 game trailers more than the games themselves, but this faithful take on the Space Hulk tabletop game could be legit. Above we see a tableau of terminators locked in close combat with Tyranid genestealers as sad opera plays, and we learn that the opera is sad because the Space Hulk they are fighting for is about to kill a planet. It's just spare change in the Emperor's grand plan.
