noname2200 said: It probably doesn't "need" a sequel, but I disagree that the game isn't complete (while agreeing that any explanation is probably going to detract). For example, the very last scene of the ending briefly introduces a new character. Who? Couldn't tell you! There are also a few matters that were indirectly raised by not at all addressed during the game proper. If it's who I suspect, we actually learn more about that person in XC2 than in X itself (not that we learn a whole lot...). On the whole, X was incomplete, plot-wise. Not sure that alone warrants a sequel, although I would be pleased if we got a game that refined a lot of its mechanics: the exploration was great, and I came to appreciate the mission structure over time, even if the characters and narrative were "meh." The combat system was also good, even if there was room for improvement. |
Oh, so there's an implied connection with the other games after all? Interesting...*strokes beard*
I did like the exploration in X...it just wasn't enough to keep me interested unfortunately. Both the characters and story were rather forgettable, and those are my main reasons for playing RPGs in the first place, and probably why I'm that weird guy that puts XC2 ahead of even XC1. I would like to see a lot of the gameplay features return in a future game, the Skells were fun and I missed the Follow Ball.
