Should probably wait until Ultimate releases before we can say it's the better game, but even then...
Eh, people can just feel that Melee is the better game. It doesn't have to be that Melee players are stuck in the past or won't accept change.
Imo Melee is the best, not to say Smash 4 is bad, it's good in terms of how it plays (everything else though not so much...), I personally don't like it anymore but I still think it's good. My experience with Smash was pretty much like a typical casual, I played Melee until Brawl came out and Brawl until Smash 4 came out. I thought Smash 4 was the best by a small margin but then I picked up Melee at the tail end of last year. For me Melee is the best by far and I know others that played both and prefer Melee and even someone that started with Smash 4 and then went to Melee.
I suppose my point is, is that people have different tastes and for some Melee is just better.
If a Smash game releases that's better than Melee in Melee fans opinions then they'll move on.
