Nostalgia, market presence and mass market appeal. The SNES sold over 5 Million units in less than a year and further pushed Nintendo's brand power. Considering how popular the PS brand currently is, as well as the nostalgia wave they've been riding recently, It's reasonable to assume that the PS Classic will go on to match that, probably surpass it. At $99, €99 and £89 if you're guaranteed to sell 5+ Million, why would you bother releasing them on the PS store to potentially damage that push? |
Like Carl said Nostalgia, market presence and mass market appeal the last two here being important in that they allow that nostalgia in the form of PS classics to have a much wider scope than the PS store allows for, you not only open up these games to a much bigger audience, you also give those games a clearer focus than what they would otherwise receive .
