Those companies all have their own data centers or major hosting systems.   Valve is damn near nothing but a service company anyway. And they get paid via advertising.

MS gives data away for free because they can use it as marketing for their cloud services - OneDrive, Azure, etc...

Nintendo has to partner with other companies for these services.  MS does not.  Valve does not.  Activision-Blizzard does not.

So is Nintendo's neglected online infrastructure the justification for their poor service?
