The biggest thing that made the NES classic successful is they made sure that all the best NES games were on it (except for big non-gaming IP like Ninja Turtles). They also made sure the list was fairly diverse. For example they put on Final Fantasy 1 even though it wasn't nearly as big as the Mario/Zelda type games. The SNES classic was pretty good about this too, although not perfect. (They did leave off Chrono Trigger.) I've seen plenty of Sega game type consoles over the years and sometimes the lists are good and sometimes they aren't. I think Sony needs to make sure they get the big Konami games like Symphony of the Night and Metal Gear Solid. Just have to wait and see what the list is like. |
The advantage that Nintendo has over Sony on this matter is that, of the both minis they have relased, they owned about 60% or 70% of the games. Not only that made the product that much cheaper to make, for Nintendo themselves), but it also garanteed that the mini would have a stellar lineup.
In that sense, Sony does have more of an uphill battle, but I do have faith that they will manage to have a very good number of unmissible titles on the PS 1 Classic.
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
