Nintendo told everyone it was coming well in advance, even delaying it and its significantly cheaper. Not sure how it can get more digestible than that

Paying $399 for a console then paying $60 for online seems quite a bit more congestive.

Im not talking about money. The price isnt the issue with Switch Online, on a base level at least.

With PS4 online, it started with the launch of the console. Additionally, ppl were already paying for PS+ because of the monthly game service. So it was launched alongside a new console and part of an existing subscription service.

With the Switch it is neither of these. its being introduced into an already established console and is a new thing. And on that level, it is obvious why some ppl might annoyed with a service that seems underwhelming. you are right, it is cheap. Price isnt the issue... but honestly why would I want to pay online to play Splatoon 2 or MK8 when I have already been playing both of these on the same device already without an online subscription?

That is what I am talking about. The financial angle is something different, and I agree that the switch online is pretty much pocket change.

Switch online service was announced at launch though and was delayed. So people knew it was coming yet didn't actually have to pay for it at launch like the ps4.

If this was implemented on the ps4, it would be seen as a positive. There was quite the outrage back in the day about being forced to play online on the ps4, even some on this site if I remember correctly.

Also, not that many people were using ps+ on the ps3..... Relative to the user base anyway. It was 7.9 million in November 2014. Which would have included some ps4 users. In fact the article below says sub rates grew by more than 200 percent since the launch of the ps4.

https://www.engadget.com/2014/11/03/playstation-plus-subscriber-count-adds-up-to-7-9-million/

Which would you have preferred? To pay to play online at launch after buying an expensive console or having the knowledge that you will have to pay for it eventually? Pretty obvious answer, imo.
