The EU is trying to replicate the USA without English Law (they're doomed to fail).

British Empire (ie British laws/customs) = BAD.

Millions of people moving to Britain to live under British laws/customs = GOOD.

The modern economy has convinced Europeans to reinvent the slave trade. "The immigrants will pay our pensions". This worked well for the USA when there was no welfare state/unlimited benefits. Unfortunately it will lead to Europe's downfall because the idea of small government is anti-thetical to everything a (non-brit) european believes.
