He donated a million of his own dollars (most of it after he was, "blackballed") and all of his previous season's jersey sales (I believe I read he was the second highest jersey in NFL that season) to charities and causes he believed to be helpful to his message. Before that and while playing, he was already giving money, without mention of it, to charities in the inner city to help improve relations between police and the citizens. He also organized, "ride through" trips where professional athletes got to ride along with Bay Area police through inner city neighborhoods in an attempt to bridge the relationship gap between police and citizen (again, before the kneeling) by having famous athletes get out and start conversations with citizens. He gave Tom Ford suits to parolees so they could look presentable when going to probation meetings and court appointments (out of his own pocket and to random people in front of the court house on many separate occasions). He set up his own charity and has raised more than a million dollars for it (after his playing days were over).
And I am not going into his political stuff while he was in college. You see, people do not realize this is a man that was always living this life. He was not always the face of things because he is religious and has stated that he was taught in the Bible that you do charity because it is right and not for notoriety.
