Context is everything here. It wasn't just a generic 'We believe PS4 is best place to play games' promotion, it was an answer to a specific question. And his answer as to why they wont allow cross-play with other consoles was that it would 'compromise the experience', wich is blatantly untrue. In this context (locking accounts into the PS ecosystem, preventing not just cross-play, but any play on other consoles with that account) it comes off as arrogant bs.

And yes, I have a problem with any company that resorts to blatant lies to justify their anti-consumer decisions. Just look at Apples anti-repair bs. Liking a company for their products, like I do both Apple and Sony, does not mean they are immune to me criticizing them when they fuck up. Sony is fucking up with this imo. It's simple, really.

Also, I'm not offended. Not sure were you got that from?

To what question? If its so specific then please quote it with the source for me. Likewise he never said it would compromise anything.

Besides, his comment wasn't about the locking of account (which is a serious problem that Sony needs to address) but about cross-play. His comment isnt so much arrogant as it is tone deaf. Again, hes not really responsible here and likely has little impact on this decision (considering how strong the PS division is, his lack of experience in the gaming sector, and Sony still operating with semi-autonomous entities) .

Your pretty blunt and hostile use of words gave off that impression pretty clearly. but if thats not the case then my apologies.

That said, consumer response in terms of actual money spending is what matters here. But Sony arent going to budge on cross-play for the rest of this gen. They will open up for PS5. As for the account thing with Fortnite... who knows what they will do. This existed way back on the console launch on PS4/ X1 and Epic didnt say anything, and ignored ppl on their own forums asking about it.

'And that's because the best experience is to play on PlayStation, he said. So allowing other people to play would be a compromise' - it's in OP.

In the article linked the quote is: "But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform." - Implying the experience on xbox/switch is inferior to the one on IOS and would be compromising the PS4 experience.

It was a response specifically to fortnight crossplay. To ignore the whole context of the fortnight cross-play situation, wich includes the locking of accounts into the PS eco-system is ignoring the core of the problem. If cross-play was allowed in the first place, there'd be no locked-in accounts, so it is very much related. I'm not happy with Epic on this topic either, but that's not what this thread is about.

Also I was neither being blunt nor hostile during any of my posts in this thread. I don't know where you're getting that from.

Anyways, I certainly hope that they won't continue this behaviour into the PS5 launch, wich is my real worry here, as I've written somewhere above.

I'm not sure there's much point in continung this conversation though, you clearly see no troubles with Sonys behaviour or statements in this regard, while I do. Difference of opinion. Lets move on and not dance around in circles.
