A podcast that I listen to said it better than I can even attempt to... but I'll try.
There are people who were historically downtrodden. Maybe they were minorities. Maybe they were geeks. Maybe they were homosexual. You sympathize with those people. You want them to have equality. When they get that equality, you realize that they were assholes just like everybody else.
