I don't know about older handhelds but if zorg is right about Game Boy Advance and DS that would be:

Game Boy Advance (2nd year peak)
Launch: 2001
Peak: 2003

DS (4th/5th year peak)
Launch: 2004
Peak: 2008/2009

3DS (2nd year peak)
Launch: 2011
Peak: 2013

3DS launch in Q1 2011, how is 2013 year 2? Same with GBA it launched in Spring 2001 so 2003 would be year 3.
