Chrono Trigger. It still ranks in my top 5 games ever. God of War is fun, but nowhere near the top for me. Chrono Trigger has way better writing for starters, and way more interesting characters. I still love the way it did time travel, no game really compares on that for me. I don't think the plot is all that cliche either. If anything, it was Chrono Trigger's plot that originated some cliches, and is actually way more creative about them. The plot twist was interesting and surprising the first time I played the game through to completion, which was as an adult about 8 or so years ago. And 12 fucking endings! (13 on DS!) The gameplay is a bit simple, but that's not a bad thing. To this day, it still has one of the most enjoyable turn based battle systems in an RPG that I've played.

Meanwhile God of War, the story was boring after the first game, the character unredeemably awful after the first game, the writing average even in the first game, and the gameplay was even simpler than Chrono Trigger's. More action oriented, obviously, being not an RPG, but simple nonetheless. The gameplay is satifying, and the power fantasy is also very satisfying, so it's not a bad game, it just wasn't very memorable for me.
