Good thing the switch is mobile. On top of that, it’s running a generic mobile soc with fully EXISTING upgradable parts. Unlike Nintendo previous portables with custom chips.

So in reality, Nintendo could update the switch YEARLY if they want. Tegra roadmap exist already. X2 > Xavier> Pegasus > Orin 

Gameboy certainly wasn't bothered by PS3. And 3DS sales are a sad low against DS... still none of them tried to be competing against consoles did they? Or get direct ports;
