I remember the Kickstarter video for Pillars of Eternity, and how Obsidian was on the verge of bankruptcy (don't quote me on that), and that getting the support of gamers from around the world helped save their company. I would personally like to see them maintain their independence, as I like them, and would like to see them continue to grow.
If they do sell themselves to MS, then we just have to hope it doesn't affect the quality of their titles. I would hope that their games would continue to show up on Steam.
