- Quantum Break was announced alongside the xbox one announcement. which was infamous for its focus on "TV". and guess what, QB had a "tv show" plugged in a video game somehow, the end product was not too good. and while this isnt nearly as bad as the previous mentions its just another indication of MS middling in the games and doing what they want instead of letting a dev make the game they want to make.

I just want to point out that I don't think this is the case with Quantum Break.

Sami Järvi (Sam Lake) explained in an interview with Finnish gaming magazine that before Xbox One was even launched, it was Remedy's idea to combine a video game and a tv-show. They brought this idea to Microsoft and because Microsoft had plans with television stuff for Xbox One, they encouraged Remedy to take this tv-show idea even further. Järvi says everyone at Remedy agreed that they want to be even more ambitious and make the game bigger.

Here's a link to one interview, it's in Finnish though https://www.savonsanomat.fi/kulttuuri/Quantum-Break-on-Remedyn-j%C3%A4ttisatsaus-Rahallisesti-voidaan-puhua-isosta-Hollywood-tuotannosta/752224

edit. here's an interview in English https://venturebeat.com/2016/04/11/remedys-sam-lake-stepped-up-the-creativity-and-ambition-with-microsofts-quantum-break/

Microsoft made it possible for Remedy to push their vision further. Must have been great for Remedy.

"The actors, having known talent on this level—that was in the talks, very early on. It came from this idea of creating a big Hollywood blockbuster type of experience. But it was in large part thanks to Microsoft being willing to fund the idea and give us the support to pull it off".
