At a guess I'd say it's generally because Sony buys studios that are considered second party and have worked almost exclusively with them, whereas Microsoft have been buying studios that people don't necessarily associate with them, I mean, I understand the guys that made Forza Horizon and State of Decay, those make sense in my opinion, but to buy Ninja Theory and Obsidian, that throws me off a bit, as if they're "stealing" the developers in a way, since Ninja Theory have generally had more to do with Sony than Microsoft in the past, and Obsidian, while not quite on that level, they're seen as being openly multiplatform and have never made exclusive, excluding PC games of course. Like I said though, that's just my guess, as for my opinion ion the matter; I feel like Obsidian should really have been bought by a third party publisher, Bethesda for example, much earlier on, it seems like a much better fit for them, and people still argue to this day that New Vegas is the best Fallout game, lol. Either way I'm not really a fan of this rumour of Microsoft buying them, and if that turns out to be true, I can't say I'll be happy about it, lol. |
I do get that they aren't really linked to Microsoft and usually what Sony buys does but I'm not really buying that reason. If that were the case than shouldn't the gaming public be mad Sony bought the rights for something like Spider-Man? It's the same situation as Microsoft buying a studio they aren't associated with only they bought a game not a studio. And it's not like Microsoft was the only option for ninja theory, obsidian etc etc. They were "free agents" so to speak and chose to join Microsoft for whatever reason. There was nothing stopping Sony, EA etc etc from putting in offers, and maybe they did and got outbid.
