Sakamoto has always said this though, if it was up to his words then Prime was never canon. That said, he calls them "different stories", that doesn't mean one is canon and one isn't, just that they're separate, like two alternate universes. Personally I like that explanation, it's actually the way I always saw it. No universal timeline between all games ever made much sense to me. |
You're mixing up canon and lore he says they're not only different series but the stories have no connection meaning they're stand alone from each other, it's like comic books where you can have different variants of X-men but they have nothing to do with each other's worlds and stories yeah they all draw from the same lore but are stand alone.
As far as things go Prime is not canon to his work from his own words.
