Sony exclusives never had huge sales in USA in their first months, most of them even lifetime, so it wasn't something really relevant.....until now. God of war beat The Last of Us by selling near 2m in its first NPD month, but it will be probably beaten by Spider-Man in September, and this will be probably beaten by The Last of Us Part II when it launches in 2019 too. I wonder what number of sales will need the inevitable God of War II to beat the record then....

Sony is becoming as dominant as Ubisoft, EA or Nintendo (in sales) with their own games. Gran Turismo, Uncharted, God of War, The Last of Us, Horizon, Spider-Man are becoming 10m sellers each, and games like Days Gone or Ghosts of Tsushima have potential too. Sony is positioning itself phenomally to end this gen and create hype for the next one.

GOW 3 did 1.1 million in March 2010 on NPD and topped the charts.

GOW 2, Chains of Olympus and Ascension all featured high on NPD. Gran Turismo topped charts on PS1 and PS2.

One thing is top one month in NPD and another is being a huge absolute successful sales game for months or years. You can't compare Mario Tennis Aces with God of War just because both won a NPD month.... God of War sold way better in its firtst month and it's still selling a lot. God of War III in 2010 sold 1'1 million, in its first month yes, it was the best selling Sony game in USA until then and ended selling around 3m in USA alone, a fine number, but still, nothing compared to other juggernauts of the industry, exclusive to a console or not.

What I meant to say, is that Sony games have surpassed the notion of "relative success" that we apply a lot in forum like this for games that surprise us in sales or that "sold very well for the game that it is" to full absolute success compared without discussion to any other game in the market. Uncharted 4 selling 8'7m in their first 7 months, Horizon Zero Dawn, a new 1st party selling 7.6 million in its first year and God of War 2018 selling 5m in its first month globally were numbers out of reach for Sony except for Gran Turismo that now rival with Nintendo first party games, the best years of Microsoft exclusives like Halo or even recognized and stablished 3rd party games like Final Fantasy, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, etc. Now, things have changed and we accept wondering what next Sony exclusive game will surpass those games. That's a monumental progress for Sony from previous generations.
