But guess what the Nazi's never claimed to be totalitarians before they gained power in Germany but as soon as they gained power they became totalitarians by turning Germany into a one party state and outlawing all opposition parties.   

which is what happens when you cede more and more power to the government under the pretense of providing more healthcare, more education, more security etc etc etc

eventually since it is PEOPLE who run the government,  they inevitably misuse their power and overstep their boundaries

how else could it end up?

at least if its not centralised and there competition, service providers can be kept in check
