Hey, Terror from the Deep wasn't that bad. It was just hard as hell (the ship terror missions were a nightmare). And not as fun. Even Apocalypse had it's moments. I mean, it was a huge departure from the first but I thought it had some good ideas that weren't fully fleshed out. Too bad Genesis was never finished.
My personal picks:
Resident Evil
Metal Gear Solid
Legend of Zelda
Rainbow 6 (at least up until Ravenshield)
Freespace (only 2 games, but they are the best space flight sims IMO)
