I only tend to do so whenever a dev does a bad port job or takes on bad business practices.
EA is pulling crap with BFV, so I'm more likely at this point to ignore BFV while also going back to playing BF1 and possibly Warframe in the future. I've got other MP FPS games to play at the end of the day. Voting with your voice can work for smaller devs because they either have to listen to you or would love to, while publishers are big enough to ignore a handful of fans, but not an angry mob consisting of a few hundred thousand to millions.
That being said, voting with your wallet is more or less a numbers based movement. If you vote with your wallet and you're 1 out of say ten thousand people, chances are high that your vote (as important as you thought it would be) was worth nothing and did nothing to change anything. When a lot of people do the same as you do, then it's just going with the flow of what the bigger crowd wants to change. If your vote is against not buying a game with using bad practices, and millions do the same, then the chances are very high that changes will be made.
I'll still vote with my wallet, but I know enough that my one vote will never count unless it's joined with a larger number. Me voicing an issue with an indie dev isn't as likely to change the whole game, let alone a part of it. Same goes for the large publishers out there.
Also, I don't really care for Jessica Price and her crap, but I'm not going to stop buying games just because she happens to be in among the other staff working on the game, as I feel that would be stupid, not to mention pointless (and it actually becomes scummy when you look at the intent and big picture of what a few people would love to do to another's life if they had the chance).
Edit: Considering how I just found out that Tinybuild games has blocked me on Twitter after voicing concerns over them as a company, I guess I don't have to support their games in the future going forward.
