I don't get it, it feels like Super just doesn't want to go into brave new directions. I mean Battle of Gods opened the gates to a very strong world building element but noooo they play it safe and again adhere to fan service. They're just ripping off stuff left and right, they ride on the coattails of Friza for the majority of the show, have little to no story to tell since the majority of the show is the tournament arcs and have poorly written characters i.e. Jiren. Most importantly any emotionally charged actions were effectively removed, no more rage moments, no more letting loose, it's just ehh (come on, back tingling??).

Like this was supposed to be a soft reboot for the DB franchise, a new art direction, going back to basics but honestly, it feels like they're just going to rehash stuff again from DB's history. Whatever, I love Broly and I hope there is a good emphasis on storytelling this time around. DB has never had great stories to tell but it had shining glimpses of character arcs/ characterisation, that's why Vegeta and Gohan were my favourite characters.

Modern Dragon Ball is all about the merchandise and revenue, the decisions that they make with the series now are all gonna be driven by how much money it can make and how safe it is, this is the unfortunate reality. I personally am not expecting any improvements going forward and with the way things are looking i'm most likely gonna stay away from all things Dragon Ball if this is the type of thing they'll approve of. I mean, ever since Resurrection F all they've given us is glorified fanfiction, and not the good kind (if there is such a thing). They aren't interested in taking risks, making a competently well written show or characters, they're just interested in nostalgia wank. At least they're being honest about it now.
