Thoughts on MH world as MH, game and weapon favourites?

I actually started playing again and noticed my gear is a lot worse than I thought. Still, had to kill teostra and got his coil for weakness exploit 2, and dropped the weakness exploit necklace/charm thing for just attack.  It's a little annoying that my main weapon is the HR rathalos one which is fire elemental, so I just been using something that a lot of monsters are strong against. Was wondering if any of the newer weapons were any good.
