EU votes on copyright law that could kill memes and open source software
https://www.pcgamer.com/eu-votes-on-copyright-law-that-could-kill-memes-and-open-source-software/
The European Union has passed an initial vote in favour of the Copyright Directive, a legislation experts say "threatens the internet".
As reported by Wired, the mandate is designed to update internet copyright law but contains two controversial clauses. Ultimately, it could force prominent online platforms to censor their users' content before it's posted—which could impact everyone from meme creators to open source software designers and livestreamers.

Active Shooter is a tactical FPS designed to simulate school shootings, which has unsurprisingly already been the subject of plenty of controversy. As of today, it can no longer be purchased via PayPal.
The Associated Press reports that PayPal has closed the account of publisher Acid Software, barring it from one of the most popular means of online payment.

Dark Souls Remastered save files corrupted by antivirus software, Bitdefender responds (Updated)
https://www.pcgamer.com/popular-antivirus-software-may-corrupt-dark-souls-remastered-save-files/
Update: As outlined in our original story below, a number of Dark Souls Remastered players have reported save file corruption since its PC launch last month. Yesterday, Bandai Namco identified popular antivirus applications Bitdefender and Windows Defender as the likely offenders, and provided a fix. The former has now replied to PC Gamer with a workaround.
Bitdefender says that in order to allow Dark Souls to access and modify the saved files that are stored in a folder protected against ransomware attacks, players should add the game's executable as 'Allowed' in the Application Access area or remove the Documents folder from Protected folders.

https://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-twitter-account-teases-something-possibly-new-event-or-hero/
The Overwatch Twitter account has posted a teaser of... something. It depicts what appears to be an alleyway adorned with posters and other graffiti expressing both pro- and anti-Omnic sentiment. There's also a Lúcio concert promotion, a poster depicting Horizon Lunar Colony, and a few paintings of several animals in space suits, including a monkey and a dog.

Epic reaffirms building and shotgun nerfs: 'Not every encounter should have to end in a build-off'
https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-reaffirms-building-and-shotgun-nerfs-not-every-encounter-should-have-to-end-in-a-build-off/
Epic commented on the state of the Fortnite meta in a short blog post today, addressing the anxiety in the community over recent nerfs to harvesting and shotguns. With shotgun damage and resources from harvesting down, the intent was to diversify winning strategies that don't boil down to endlessly build-battle and double-pump. (I'm referring to those massive, incomprehensible towers some players make in 1v1s and the ability to switch quickly between shotguns for fast damage, for those out of the loop.)

The Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game will arrive in Early Access by summer’s end
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-lord-of-the-rings-living-card-game-will-arrive-in-early-access-by-summers-end/
Much like hobbits returning to the shire, The Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game will make it into Early Access before the first leaves of autumn fall: August 28, 2018. A digital adaptation inspired by Fantasy Flight Games’ cooperative card game of the same name, the game has players battling through a series of narrative stories to foil Sauron’s plans either solo or with a co-op partner. The game will only include single player experiences at Early Access launch, but will add co-op in “the coming months,” presumably in time for Frodo to feel ill on the anniversary of his encounter with Shelob. The Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game is published by Asmodee Digital and developed by Fantasy Flight Interactive.

Bethesda says Fallout 76's nukes are hard to get and easy to avoid
https://www.pcgamer.com/bethesda-says-fallout-76s-nukes-are-hard-to-get-and-easy-to-avoid/
Fallout 76's futuristic West Virginia is littered with nuclear missiles that players can use however they see fit. To some, that sounds like a humorous bit of chaos, but many Fallout fans are worried about what those nukes could do to their experience. That is to say, am I going to get spontaneously atomized while I'm out exploring? In a recent interview with Swedish games site FZ, Bethesda marketing VP Pete Hines addressed these and other fears regarding player-controlled nukes.
