2002: World champions France lost their first match.
2010: World champions Italy lost their first match.
2014: World champions Spain lost their first match.
2018 World champions Germany lost their first match.
The Curse of being reigning world champions and losing first match has struck again! After losing the opening match: France, Italy and Spain failed to progress from the group stage. Germany are unlikely to progress from group stage.
