Everything someone says is generally opinion, me saying there wasn't much to miss is my interpretation of the event. I didn't say it sucked either, not being impressed and/or being slightly disappointed isn't the same as saying something sucks.

Also, my criticism is mainly grounded in the latter part of what I said: "There are so many projects from teams that haven't released anything yet on Switch that it just seems odd for them to not even have a partway made concept to share with people."

Either Nintendo has more and they didn't show it intentionally because they thought all Nintendo/Switch fans would just want to see Smash this time, or they don't have more to show and are just padding for time. Neither builds very much confidence outside of the group that loves and is satisfied with Smash enough to have it carry a presentation for them. They very well could have more under wraps, but until they show it then this specific event just seems a bit bare-bones to me.

See it this way:

Nintendo's 2016 E3 was 99% Zelda.
Nintendo's 2017 E3 was at least 50% Mario.

It only makes sense they'd focus similarly on Smash now. These three games are Nintendo's biggest first-party IPs except for Mario Kart, and they are Nintendo's three most ambitious projects in recent memory, if not ever (besides also likely being the Switch's best-selling games alongside MK and Pokémon). The only difference is that you probably cared a lot about Zelda and Mario so you weren't bothered to see Nintendo spend so much time on them, but because you don't really care about Smash now you were annoyed by it.

Just butting in for a second, but even if what you said was the case, he would still be right. He didnt say that what he thought was a general concenssus, but rather his view of the conference. So if the games shown this year didnt excite him as much, then the conference didnt excite him as much.Personally, and thats my own view, I like Smash announcements because of how the announcements are presented and because of the chracters, but while I like the game itself and not its biggest fan.I mean, that may change if they announce a subspace emmisary-like campaign. And mario wasnt 50% of the conference last year but I digress.

And just as a sidenote:Nintendo cant have every year to be like 2017 simply because thats impossible. They dont have enough people to have an AAA game, or at least fairly ambitious game every month or so for years on end.2018 being a more "quiter" year compared to 2017 will probably mean that the stream of high quality games will be increased next year though.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
