Azzanation said: That depends, are you looking at it in the latest hardware aspect? Because like i mentioned before, not all PC gamers run games on the latest hardware, meaning alot of games still come out optimised for low end PCs.
That is also one of the PC's strong points.
The same argument was leveraged last generation when Playstation 4 gamers were arguing that same very argument as the PC didn't have 8GB of GDDR5 Ram... History of course tells a different story.
Azzanation said: If the X goes the PC gen route than no one will be expecting the X to run the games identical to next gen systems, that also depends how far ahead next gen consoles will be in power.. remembering there most likely going to aim for the sweet spot in terms of price so how much are they going to invest into the power?
The ports to Switch tend to be extremely downgraded experiences on the visual and performance front, developers actually have to put a shit ton of time and effort to get their games to an acceptable state... Case in point: Doom 2016.
Azzanation said: The X is already designed ahead of its time and we can assume cutting its visuals in the resolution from 4k to 1080p already boosts the preformance bracket by the X immensely.
It most certainly is not ahead of it's time.
The bulk of it's extra capabilities is being spent primarily on framerates and resolution... All the Xbox One does is catch the consoles up a little towards a mid-range PC.
The Xbox One X is very much mid-range in terms of GPU capabilities, low-end in terms of CPU capabilities.
However... They also spent a ton of budget on the cooling, power delivery and the DRAM... There are more cost efficient and viable options for a successor to the Xbox One X's soc available today.
Azzanation said: The CPU is an interesting topic but will wait and see i guess. Like I said not all PC gamers are running the latest Intel or AMD CPUs.
The PC tends to primarily leverage high-level abstraction layers which mitigates those issues, consoles are a mixed bag on that front... With most games targeting low-level API's that are closer to the metal for optimal performance.
Azzanation said: I think Sea of Thieves was designed to run on a i3 CPU..
Irrelevant? That tells us nothing of the intrinsic instructions a CPU holds as the "Core i3" spans from Nahelem right up to Coffee Lake, that's almost a decade right there.
Azzanation said: Anyway its all speculation and rumours. Either way they go it will be interesting.
Indeed.
